        T
he Fremont facility, located in the Hurricane Electric Facility, is connected to a national backbone which is ranked among the top in the nation. Dual OC48 (2.4 Gbps) connections to several major exchange points form network rings around the nation (see http://www.he.net/releases/release74.html for more details). These include MAE-West in San Jose CA; PAIX in Palo Alto CA; AADS in Chicago IL; NYIIX in New York NY; and MAE-East in Vienna VA.

The self-healing network eliminates a single point of failure. In addition to the backbone, a backup transit from multiple locations ensures that data arrives via the shortest possible route. The backup transit and the many international peers allows the network to maintain the shortest routes for sending data all over the world. In addition, we are always looking at fiber carriers for potential new routes, additional backup transit providers, and new peering relationships.

Our Fremont facility has one of the friendliest peering policies in the industry. There is a constant effort to peer with any network that is connected to one or more of the exchange points that this network uses.

The entire network is fully switched and uses the Border Gateway Protocol Version 4 (BGP4) over Cisco 12000 series GSR routers. This ensures that bandwidth will be routed through the best available carrier providing you seamless connectivity at the same time. We always update the router's IOS after we have stress tested the latest IOS on a non-critical router, for maximum stability. The switch that your equipment will ultimately be connected to is connected back to a core router via fiber.

The Fremont Facility was designed from the ground up to serve data housing needs. Raised floors, individually locked cabinets, advanced climate control, back-up power, custom designed video surveillance of every cabinet, and onsite security measures assure that servers are safe while running optimally. The Data Center is monitored and guarded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was engineered with HVAC environmental systems, digital surveillance, stringent security, conditioned uninterruptible power, and your convenience in mind.       SingTel has a well-established and extensive communications network and infrastructure in Singapore and Australia. The Group’s advanced mobile networks cover 100% and 94% of the Singapore and Australian populations respectively. In addition, the Group has interests in about 50 submarine cables with landing points in more than 50 locations in Asia, and has access to one of the most extensive satellite networks in the region which, together, provide direct links to all the major business centres in the region. The EXPAN network is the most extensive in Asia, presently comprising 10 Data Centres located in Singapore (three), Australia, Japan (two), Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong (two). These Data Centres are linked via SingTel’s pan-Asian submarine cable systems, which include the C2C cable network. EXPAN is also available in other markets like China, Thailand and Indonesia through marketing alliances with local partners.

As a regional Managed Hosting Telco provider, there are a total of 12 EXPAN Data Centres in 6 countries. By owning the cable that carries the data itself, a consistent level of service is delivered to all locations. SingTel EXPAN’s Data Centres are backed by SingTel’s extensive and robust cable network and satellite infrastructure. SingTel's Internet Exchange (STiX) is Asia's largest Internet backbone, supplying more than 2.5 gigabits of bandwidth to Asia Pacific region. Our extensive Internet connectivity has direct connections to over 33 countries and more than 90 ISPs in the Asia Pacific region.

SingTel set up its representative office in Hong Kong in 1996 and has gradually built up its presence in the territory. Today, the office employs 35 people, most of them Hong Kong residents, and manages two Data Centres (at Shatin and Chai Wan) with a total floor area of 36,000 square feet.

The launch of EXPAN in Hong Kong will add to the range of services that SingTel already offers to its multinational clients, which include Citicorp, Deutsche Bank and Lucent Technologies. From Hong Kong, SingTel already provides direct connectivity to Singapore, Japan, Korea, China and the United States for a variety of services. It intends to extend this list to include Australia, India, Taiwan and the United Kingdom in the near future.
